GENERAL INFORMATION ON W C
& B C.
The village of Walsden is situated in Calderdale, West Yorkshire and has a
population of approximately 2,500 people. The only major sporting centre in Walsden is the cricket club and along with Saint Peters
Church it is the main focal point for the local community. The Club is affiliated
to both the Lancashire and Yorkshire Cricket Boards and is a Clubmark approved club and a registered Community Amateur
Sports Club (CASC).
Walsden Cricket & Bowling Club was formed in
1870 and in 2000 celebrated its 130th year. The Club was a founder member of the Central
Lancashire League (CLL) in 1892 and until 2015 remained in that league. In 2016
the club joined The Pennine Cricket League (PCL) which was a merger of the
Central Lancashire League and the Saddleworth
League. As a result of
other Clubs deciding to join other Leagues the PCL finished at the end of the
2017 Season and the Club made the decision to join the Lancashire League for
the 2018 Season and onwards.
Walsden C&BC is a non profit making
organisation with any profits being reinvested in the club, cricket, and bowls.
The club is run by its Officers and the General Committee of around 15
committed individuals. It currently has around 300 members in total and also
has a large number of non members and guests who regularly use the clubs
facilities.
As a cricket club there are
three senior teams, four junior teams (U15, U13, U11, U9),
a ladies team and for bowls the club has six bowling teams which includes two
veteran teams. We provide excellent cricket coaching for juniors and there is
cricket available for youngsters every evening during the summer months.
Our ground and nets are
available to all local schools at no cost. Our function room (Millennium Suite)
is used throughout the year by Age Concern for luncheon clubs for which we only
pass on the cost of heating and cleaning our pavilion. It is also used by Todmorden Bridge Club. In addition many local charities and
community groups use our rooms for various purposes, again at no charge. Below
are some of the local organisations that have used the club and ground free of
charge:
Shade and Walsden
School for Cricket when requested.
Shade & Walsden
Parents & Friends Fund Raising.
St Peters Church, Walsden.
Bellholme Sports Association
(met for 15 years at our club).
Walsden O.A.P. Friendly Club.
Cancer Research Todmorden.
Deaf Children Fund Raising.
Walsden Cricket & Football Club.
Todmorden Harriers.
White Rose Archers (for major shoots).
Age Concern – Lunch Club (a nominal charge).
The club function room is also
used by Calderdale MBC as a polling station.
Our club is and has been used
as a community centre for the following:
Wedding
Receptions, Funeral Wakes, Dancing, Fitness Clubs, Slimming Clubs, Children’s Parties, Quiz’s, Table Tennis, Darts, Retirement
Functions, First Aid Courses and many other types of Seminars.
The Sponsors Lounge is part of the larger Millennium Suite (see link
below) and can be partitioned off for privacy to accommodate the numbers you
need up to, approximately 50.
The lounge is recently decorated and has
its own television and music facilities and has its own private bar. Use of the
bar is negotiable. The cost of match sponsorship is normally £100 plus VAT, but
can also be negotiatable.

Advertising boards are placed around the
ground in full view of spectators and players. Costs are dependent upon your
requirement but standard board set up prices are approximately £100 for 8’x3’
plus Vat for providing the board itself and then £100 per annum plus Vat
thereafter for the advertising board annually. Sponsors can provide their own
boards if they wish.
Match ball sponsorship is available for all 1st XI games and
other games upon request. Providing cricket balls for every game is a major
expense, so this form of sponsorship is very valuable to the club.
Match ball sponsorship of 1st XI & 2nd XI
games costs approximately £25, 3rd XI £15 and junior £10,
all figures inclusive of VAT.
The cricket ground and cricket nets are available for hire for friendly games and practice. The hire includes use of our recently redecorated changing rooms including showers and toilets. Cricket equipment can also be supplied on request.
